Born and raised in a small town in southern Sweden with a mother that originates from Poland and a father from Iraqi, Haidar Mahdi (b. 1986) works with clay and sculpture which bear the stamp of his multicultural background. His sculptures are created using traditional ceramic methods that are rich in classical ornamentation, and play with these traditional expressions in combination with bolder shapes and colors. The result is an art that takes use of a broad concept of beauty, which includes the rich and the gaudy, to create a feel of overabundance. His clay objects are so loaded with fakery and imitation that it becomes something else, something bigger. Mahdi is educated at Konstfack University of Arts, Craft and Design and at The Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm.

Smallness is not often analogous to comfort, but it was a welcome surprise when we hit upon the composition of this chair. Despite the seat’s re- duced proportions the angle and position make it remarkably comfortable for the curiously small footprint. When in use the seat becomes invisible support for the seated hence the name Easel. The base is constructed with half-lap joints in solid pine and offers a stable feel despite its dimensions.

Today their expanding studio employs programmers, designers, and technicians that helps to put together their innovative objects. Their ”clocks” are more like functional sculptures, something that seduces our perception in a meaningful way. Their objects are much appreciated which have been proved as their works have been seen at museums, airports and institutions all around

Improvisation and popular culture is two ways of trying to untangle the weird and magical pieces of glass that comes out of Fredrik Nielsen’s (b. 1977) hands. His approach to the ancient craft is physical. He wants the glass to feel as solid as his own body, to get as close to it as he possibly can and he has referred to his relationship with glass as an ”addiction”. Like free-forming jazz performances he sees the glassblowing procedure as a ritual close to live music. He has been trained both at the classic Orrefors Glass School in souther Sweden and The Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. He is represented by Wetterling Gallery in Stockholm.

Fairings from Yamaha YZF600R thundercat 1997-2007, rings, fake fur, lacquer, chains and studs.

26 × 289 × 19 cm

With a highly personal aesthetic choice of materials – motorcycle parts, chains, metal rivets and fur, Yngvild Saeter (b. 1986) creates her own world. It derives partly from her background in the lifestyles of punk and straight edge, but she also had a near-death experience during surgery a couple of years ago which can be read into her creations. Her objects recalls that of body armor, of protection, but their placements in air or hanging on the walls like altar pieces also echoes back to the fragile state that a body can be put under. The works also recalls body parts, ribs, spines, like the heightened state of her own body that she felt after surgery. She is represented by the gallery Andréhn-Schiptjenko in Stockholm and Paris.
